Rabbi Sharyn H. Henry joined Rodef Shalom Congregation in 1999, where she served as Religious School Director and Director of Youth Activities and Education before becoming one of the congregation’s rabbis. She retired in July 2025 as Senior Rabbi Emerita, concluding a rabbinate dedicated to engaging and participatory worship and learning, inclusion, and social justice.
Rabbi Henry’s first position was Assistant Rabbi at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, in Kansas City, MO. She came to Pittsburgh in 1991 to serve as Rabbi and Educator at Temple Ohav Shalom in Allison Park, PA.
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a degree in Psychology, Rabbi Henry earned a Master’s in Hebrew Letters (MAHL, 1987) and was ordained (1988) by Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion. In 2013, the college honored her with a Doctor of Divinity degree, marking 25 years of service to the Jewish community.
Upon retirement, Rabbi Henry trained with the International End-of-Life Doula Association (INELDA) to become an end-of-life doula. She is devoted to accompanying and supporting dying individuals and their families, drawing on Jewish tradition and wisdom alongside end-of-life doula practice.
Rabbi Henry and her husband, Dennis Grinberg, enjoy spending time with their adult children — Avi, Amanda, and Asher — and their dog, Toby.
